J. Cole Gets His Own Holiday in North Carolina

Hometown hero and Fayetteville, North Carolina-bread MC, J. Cole, will be honored with his own holiday, according to Rap Radar.

The event is part of the “Dreamville Weekend,” which will begin on Thursday (March 1), and will include guest speaking engagements and a concert. This is a tremendous feat for the Roc Nation artist who left NC after high school to attend St. John’s University in Queens, New York on an academic scholarship.

Cole often raps about his inspiration to wanting to succeed as a desire to “make it” for “Fayettenam,” and his lyrics often depict the trials and tribulations of a culture-shocked young individual transitioning from life in a small town to the pursuit of a dream within the bright lights of NYC.

Though he was far away in distance from North Carolina, through his music, the 2010 XXL Freshman remained close to home. Fayetteville is most known for being the home of major United States Army installation “Fort Bragg”, which explains why the lyricist often mentions his peers being sent to recruiters, rather than higher education advisors.
