Mixtape Review: French Montana "Mac & Cheese 3"

Wednesday, November 21, 20120 comments

After being delayed for a week Bad Boy artist French Montana drops his highly awaited mixtape "Mac & Cheese 3". French has became very popular and the past year, which can be accredited to his songs which frequently feature big name hip hop artist like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Drake, and others. It is very rare to hear French solo on a record and I felt that this was his time to show his musical growth, but with 90% of the mixtape tracks having features, it looks like we may have to wait till his debut album "Excuse My French" to drop next year to see how french carries a few records by himself. Now lets get into this review!

On the Harry Fraud produced "Intro" Montana spits his usual lyrical content. While has glorification of drugs, women, and money is the same as many other rapper I was hoping to at least see French present it in a different way. Too bad for me!

A few months ago Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson got in some legal trouble when he head butted his soon to be ex wife. French and the rest of his Bad Boy crew turns that incident into a hood term for "Getting Head". Throughout the track Diddy talks too damn much, but Red Cafe, Los, and MGK do the track justice.

On the "Baby Mama Skit" a hater is talking about how he wants to beat up his Ol' Lady because she is listening to Coke Boys, which is The group French is apart of. Speaking of coke, "Yayo" features ATL rapper Future on the hook and fellow Coke Boy member Chinx Drugz. Young Chop produced the beat, which means it will knock your speakers off the wall.

Blood is thicker than "Water" and French takes the time to reflect on his coke boy days and his come up in the rap game. This is the first chance on the mixtape, thatwe get to hear Montana on his on. he recites on the chorus "I can take you to the water, but I can't help you drink". Not sure what he means, maybe something about his old homies o.O

From coke boy dreams to doing the "Grownup", French is joined by RnB singer Rico Love who handles the hook, spits a quick 16, and also produced the track. Harlem rapper turned pastor, turned rapper again Mase is also featured on the track which is focused to the ladies.

Heard they "Hating On A Youngin", but French not sweatin it. This track was leaked before the release of the mixtape and Young Chop is back on the beat. The track reminds me of Big Sean’s "Mula" which was a banger on his Detroit mixtape and also featured Montana, that was also produced by Young Chop.

Some people like to take a holiday to Miami or Hollywood, but French is in a New York "State Of Mind". Harry Fraud delivers a chilled out track, which leaves you hoping French wrecks it, but you're left wishing for another feature to give the track justice.

Somebody fucked up! "Don't Go Over There" is supposed to feature Fat Joe and Wale, but its just a repeat of the next track "Last Of The Real". Last of the real features We The Best artist Ace Hood and Mr. Hood murders French on his own track.

The “Weed Skit” leads in to the next track. Sampling Ice Cubes “Good Day” French, Mac Miller, and Curren$y talk about money, bitches and weed on “Triple Double”. It’s a shame that no matter who French gets on a track he gets murdered by them.

J.Cole and Ross jumps in the booth for “Diamonds”. French how you fuck up a hook? The only reason to listen to the track is for the J. Cole feature.

Speaking of diamonds, The Diamond princess a.k.a The Baddest Bitch Trina blesses “Tic Toc” letting us know her pussy is worth a small fortune. This seems like it could almost be a club banger, but just didn't make it. Is it just me or does this nigga French sound like Future on the hook? You know i’m getting money like a clock on the wall, Tic Toc! What the hell does that even mean? Is your clock making money?

On the track “Hip Hop” we are given the Fat Joe feature we thought we would receive earlier in the mixtape. This track is something to smoke too, and surprisingly French rides the beat pretty good, even though his lyrics are nothing special. Fat Joe also does the track justice.

I don’t know which one i dislike more, French rapping or French singing. With a track like “Sanctuary” you expect French to spit some thought provoking substance, French reveals that he was indeed a drug addict and relives his come up.

Ain’t “No Sunshine” when your cheese is gone! French gets Chinx Drugs and Prodigy to spit about being broke to having money.

Mean” is a song that French leak a long time ago featuring Fabolous and Wale, the real name is “Bust A Dance Move”.

Thrilla in Manilla” features Cash Money artists Tyga and once again Ace Hood. With Tyga on the track you know its club worthy.

After spending an hour listening to this Mixtape, i stick with my first thoughts of French Montana! He is highly overrated and I just can't understand how he is featured on songs with some of today’s best rappers. His flow and lyrical content are both garbage!

I’m rating this mixtape a 2.5 out of 5, and that's just for the features and beats from Harry Fraud & Young Chop.
