Pusha T Is Responsible For Introducing Kanye To Chief Keef's Music

If it wasn't for Pusha T, Kanye West probably wouldn't even know who the name Chief Keef. West remixed the Chicago teen's “I Don't Like” single, upping his hits on YouTube and turning him into a semi-household name. Although Keef doesn't think Ye helped him out, according to Pusha were it not for his influence over his G.O.O.D Music boss, the remix would have never happened. “First of all, I am solely the reason that there's a Chief Keef remix on [Cruel Summer],” he explained.
“I saw him [Keef] on WorldStar [HipHop]. I never click Worldstar rappers but the [video] picture for some reason drew me. It was for ‘3 Hunna.' So I clicked on it and I called [manager Steven] Victor and I said ‘Victor I want to sign this kid. Go online and check this kid out. It's authentic.'”
Keef's authenticity is exactly what peaked Pusha's interest. “That's what I like about him. This isn't Nas at 16.” Victor didn't believe that the Virginia native was actually serious about acquiring Keef, and the deal never actually grew any legs.
Instead Keef signed to Interscope.
