Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg took time out of their busy schedules to hit The Fonda Theatre to debut their new film, Mac and Devin Go To High School in Los Angeles.

The film, written and directed by Snoop, marked a teachable moment for the Dogg Father who revealed that he has learned more from Wiz than fans might expect. “I’m happy because my movie is finally out,” Snoop told Hip-Hop Wired. “Me and Wiz Khalifa got together and became friends, and grew our friendship. The spirit of me  wanting to going back to high school and be young again, because he makes me feel young. He was with it and we sat down and came up with the concept to bring our characters the way they are and put a movie together.”

In creating the script, the father of three pulled from his personal experiences. “It was a little bit of that in the way I carried myself in school,” he explained of his character. “I was always the life of the party [in school].’ They knew I was the two and not the one!”

As for Khalifa, working with Snoop was not only  an opportunity to connect with his idol, but learn from the Long Beach rapper, as an actor. “Really just I liked the role and it was doing it with Snoop, and being abel to do it our way, and not really having to do it the Hollywood way.” Khalifa explained. “He [Snoop] put his own money behind it and we wrote it ourselves. It was fun, something that we believed in, not anything that somebody had to push onto us.

“I learned to be yourself, and bring you,” Khalifa said of what Snoop taught him. “That’s what people want, that’s why they have you there. Once you come there and when you’re doing what you’re doing, switch it up and be yourself.”

The film, directed by Dylan Brown, follows the life of Devin Overstreet, an aspiring valedictorian struggling t0 write his high school graduation speech, when he realizes that being “book smart,” has hindered him anemic when it comes to life experiences. Overstreet finds solace in Mac Johnson, a 15-year senior, played by Snoop. The two become fast friends and achieve separate goals through their close relationship.

Mac and Devin Go To High School is set to be released via DVD, July 3.
