Unreleased Diss Track From Tupac "Fuck New York"

Thursday, June 30, 20110 comments

Tupac may not really be back, but his music is still here. Last night (June 29), a pair of scathing diss songs recorded when the late rapper was at the heart of the heated East Coast vs. West Coast hip-hop feud hit the Internet.

The two songs -- 'Watch Yo Mouth,' sometimes credited as 'Watch Ya Mouth,' and 'NY '87,' are not entirely unknown, with low quality versions of the former having made the rounds online before while the latter being sort of an urban legend for Pac fans. On 'Watch Yo Mouth,' Pac throws barbs at a number of his rivals including Dr. Dre, Nas the Notorious B.I.G. and even radio-television personality Wendy Williams. "Queen Puff never had no heart to start, so how the hell Biggie Smalls get the part?," barks Pac on 'Watch Yo Mouth.'

'NY '87 (Now That's Dissin)' features DJ Quik, Tha Dogg Pound and Deadly Threat. The song is credited to Tha Dogg Pound -- made up of members Kurupt and Daz Dillinger -- but never appeared on any of the group's projects. The entire song is squarely aimed at New York rappers, with acts like Jeru the Damaja, Mobb Deep and A Tribe Called Quest getting name checked in the song. Tupac was particularly abrasive at all of NYC on his verse. "It's West Coast n----, f--- New York, now did everybody hear me?/ You shot at my homies now I'ma blast/ Screaming, 'Thug life motherf-----,' when I pass," he rapped."

Shakur and the late Notorious B.I.G. had been friends but fell out soon after the former was shot at Quad Recording Studios in November 1994. Memories of that and other incidents that led to the East vs. West hip-hop feud have been stirred up recently because of music executive James Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond's trouble with authorities.

On the song 'Against All Odds,' Pac intones it was Henchmen that set him up to get robbed that evening at Quad Studios and, recently, the currently incarcerated Dexter Isaac came forward to basically corroborate that statement. Last week, Henchmen was apprehended by federal authorities and now faces drug trafficking charges.

Tupac Amaru Shakur's birthday was on June 16. This year, had he lived, he would have been 40 years old.
