Boxer Bernard Hopkins will be heading back into the ring this summer in an effort to become the sport’s oldest world champion at the age of 46, and he is already making plans on what he wants to do should he secure a victory.
Talking with ESPN, Hopkins revealed that not only does he want to create a film detailing his life but he has already secured financial backing and has a person in mind for the lead role and it’s none other than 50 Cent.
“After I win, I’m ready to tell my whole story,” said Hopkins to the sports network. “I studied at the university of life. Sometimes you have to almost die to know what living is about. I know my life can be inspiring to others. I learned my lessons early. Statistics show that I shouldn’t be alive today. I overcame so much.”
“I want 50 Cent,” he continued. “He has the swagger. He doesn’t look approachable but he really is. He understands my life. It was his life also.”
Hopkins will be fighting up against light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal in Montreal, Canada on May 21. The re-match comes after the 46-year-old lost to Pascal in a twelve-round controversial majority draw this past December in Quebec City, Canada, and is a part of a three-fight deal with HBO.
“Richard Schaefer structured it with HBO for a three-fight deal, with possibly another fight after that,” said Hopkins to USA Today. “My hit list is Pascal first, Chad Dawson, and Lucian Brute. For me to be in this position to do this at my advancing age will outdo anything I’ve ever done in my career, and I’d like to thank [the WBC] again for doing the right thing.”
