Glasper, who also goes by the name Kam Parker, labels himself a “struggling singer-songwriter” in the legal documents and claims that he signed a contract with Legendary Poets Music Publishing back in October of 2009 to write ten songs for them and in the process signed away half of his interest in the tracks.
He insists that at the time though he was a “young inexperienced college student, hoping to work in the music industry and was vulnerable,” and the company took advantage of him. He also says that Bethel Harris, the owner of the publishing company, claimed to be “the only person that Usher Raymond’s representatives would negotiate with for the song Monster.”
The contract Glasper signed also leaves him incapable of entering into another “contract to exploit his musical talents,” and he is arguing that since Legendary Poets dissolved last February before re-launching in July, the contract should be dissolved as well.
He is seeking 100 percent ownership of the songs he wrote and wants Legendary Poets to reimburse him for legal fees associated with the civil complaint. (YR)
