MC Hammer Disses Jay Z in new music video

A few weeks ago, Kanye West released a G.O.O.D. Friday track titled “So Appalled” featuring a few Jay-Z bars that upset MC Hammer. The exact part of the song in question was Hov’s rap: “And Hammer went broke so you know I’m more focused/ I lost 30 mil so I spent another 30/ ‘Cause unlike Hammer 30 million can’t hurt me.” Sure, it’s a bit of a diss on Jay’s part. But, come on, it’s not like MC Hammer’s absurd finances are some kind of dark national secret (even The Simpsons have made fun of his astounding debt). Naturally, Hammer reacted the most logical way a washed-up, 48 year-old 80s superstar would: by releasing his very own Jay-Z diss song and video.

Unsurprisingly, “Better Run Run” might very well be the worst battle rap song released, ever. Not only does the newly-religious Hammer claim Jay-Z is a devil-worshipper, but he also delivers nonsensical lines like “if I knock on your door I’m bustin’ in your mouth” in all seriousness while sporting an Ed Hardy muscle shirt. Hammer completely fails at “acting hard” and busts some moves eerily reminiscent to his “U Can’t Touch This” days to the backdrop of the most generic hip-hop synth beat imaginable (think of Usher’s “Yeah” plagiarized by a reunited Milli Vanilli).

On a radio show today, Jay-Z stated that he was surprised by Hammer’s diss and that the hip-hop veteran might be embarrassed once he reads the compliments Jay wrote about him in his new book “Decoded.” For your own sake, Hammer, you should’ve just let this go.
