Swizz Beatz to Give Lecture at NYU

Producer Swizz Beatz has spent the last year as producer-in-residence at New York University's Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, but he's sharing pearls of wisdom with students outside the illustrious program. The Grammy winner is scheduled to give a speech this evening (April 7) at NYU's Cantor Film Center at 6:30PM for all students at the institution.

The lecture, titled "Music & Film - From the Script to the Score," sees Swizz discussing how to compose music for the big screen. His credits include providing music for 1999's 'Any Given Sunday,' 2003's 'Biker Boys' and 2006's 'Take the Lead.' He is scheduled to appear alongside directors and musicians including Chris Robinson, Bonnie Greenberg, Malcolm Lee and Lisa Falcone.

Swizz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, was named producer-in-residence in November 2010, sharing his musical knowledge to students looking to achieve entrepreneurial success in the music industry. Since then, he has guided students in registering their music with performance rights organizations and giving them tips on how to promote their music in local communities.

"I have a whole new plan, knowing the scope of what I'm dealing with, where I can have these kids do music and pay off their student loans at the same time," he explained. "That formula is 85 percent done ... I want to make a real difference, so I can help them and we can help each other. 'Cause I'm a student too.''
