The film has been in the making since 2006 but a leading actor has yet to be chosen to play the role.
In an interview with Artisan News, the King of Soul’s daughter, Dr Yanna Brown said: “We have talked to several people, Eddie Murphy being one of them. In a comedic role, I guess it would have to be Eddie, who would do Dad justice. Chris Brown did such a great interpretation of Night Train at the Grammy Awards, I just thought he was wonderful.”
But it sounds as if Usher has got this one in the bag, as Yanna also added: “I think Usher, more so than anybody, holds near and dear to our family. My dad coined him the godson of soul.
“Usher is a family friend, we just love him and we are possibly thinking about him for the biopic.”
The film will be directed by Spike Lee and Yanna has every confidence in the movie, she said: “We are looking at what is going to be the best thing for Dad’s brand. At the end of the day, it will be a great film.”
