Lupe's "Lasers" Is Number 1

Lupe Fiasco's third studio album, 'Lasers,' has sold over 200,000 copies in its first week on the charts, officially making it the Chi-Town rapper's first No. 1 debut to date.

'Lasers' cemented its position on top of the music charts after moving 204,843 units. The long delayed album was finally released on March 8, but when it leaked to the web a few days earlier, it was met with a barrage of negative reaction from fans. A hurt Lupe took to Twitter to address the insults, writing, "I never thought lasers would inspire so much negativity. Reading the comments and reactions is crushing [sic]."

Despite news that Lupe's new album--a follow up to 2007's 'The Cool'--had been complete for over two years, the record was still shelved indefinitely by Atlantic Records. Following a protest at the label's New York City office last fall, it was finally given a release date but during album promotion, Lupe admitted that the delay cycle had attached some bitter sentiments to the album.

"One thing I try to stress about this project is, I love and hate this album. I listen to it and I'll like some of the songs," Lupe explained to Complex magazine. "But when I think about what it took to actually get the record together and everything that I went through on this record-which is something I can't separate-I hate this album.

Despite all the delay issues, Lupe commemorated the milestone via Twitter on Wednesday morning (Mar. 16), writing to fans, "Thank You #Lasers #1."
